Session 1: Explore

Introduction

What is a wiki?
A wiki is a website that allows multiple users to collaborate and add information, content and discussion.

Why use a wiki?
The CEO iLe@rn model has a number of aims for using technology in education. Some of these are:
  • promote life-long learning
  • develop teachers as facilitators and co-learners
  • include new technologies in contemporary learning spaces
  • engage students in decisions about their learning.

Some of the specific skills which this model aims to develop are:
  • communication and collaboration skills
  • questioning skills
  • critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • reflective skills

Each of these skills can be developed using a wiki for classroom activities.

You can explore some more information about wikis from the Wiki Walk-Through from TeachersFirst.
